AHI Legislative Director Alexander Christofor Attends Climate Week NYC, Meets with New York State Senators

NEW YORK - On the week of September 22, AHI Legislative Director Alexander Christofor traveled to New York to attend Climate Week NYC, one of the largest international meetings on climate cooperation. Christofor also met with Greek American New York State Senators to discuss issues important to the Greek American community in New York.
Highlighting US-Greece & US-EU Cooperation on Climate Change
At Climate Week NYC, Christofor attended the European Sustainable Development Goals Barometer Restitution forum, hosted by the European Networks of the UN Global Compact (Greece, France, Spain, United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland/Liechtenstein, Ireland, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Turkey). The forum featured a comparative analysis of sustainability goals and included discussion on the partnerships between EU countries, including Greece, with the United States, regarding countering climate change.
Christofor also attended the Climate Leadership: Leading Change as a Young Professional forum, hosted by Fordham University’s School of Business, which also included topics covering US-EU partnership on climate change. This was hosted at the Nest Summit Campus, which featured S&P Global and other partnering organizations.
Christofor concluded his participation in Climate Week NYC with an event featuring the work of Ecogenia, the first NGO in Greece that promotes sustainability through civic engagement, training, and employment opportunities for young people, based on the AmeriCorps model. Ecogenia has partnered with the California Conservation Corps (CCC) and receives funding from the U.S. Embassy in Greece.
Christofor Meets with NY State Senators Skoufis & Gounardes
After the conclusion of Climate Week NYC, Christofor traveled around the state of New York to meet with Greek American State Senators James Skoufis (D-NY-42) and Andrew Gounardes (D-NY-26).
In the meetings, Christofor discussed issues important to the Greek American community in the state of New York, along with topics at the national level. Christofor also briefed the Senators on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Southeast Europe that involve AHI.
