AHI President Presents to Dallas Community on Current Developments
No. 20
DALLAS, TEXAS — American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis presented to the Greek American community of Dallas, Texas, thanks to a forum organized by the Hellenic Cultural Society of Dallas and held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, February 8, 2024.
President Larigakis presented on the topic, "Current Developments in U.S. relations with Greece and Cyprus.” He elaborated on how those relations have an impact in the Eastern Mediterranean, and he discussed the state of religious freedom in Turkey and the plight of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and reflected on the somber fact that this year marks 50 years since Turkey’s illegal invasion of the Republic of Cyprus. Larigakis also explained how AHI works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, through AHI’s substantive policy programs and initiatives that advocate for the rule of law.
“It is critical for our communities to be informed and engaged on the issues,” Larigakis said. “I encourage their activism and outreach to their members of Congress as well as state and local officials.”
Yiannis Papantonopoulos, who serves as executive director of the Hellenic Cultural Society of Dallas moderated the presentation and the substantive Q&A with Larigakis that followed.
“Thank you to the Hellenic Cultural Society of Dallas for inviting me to present to their vibrant community,” Larigakis said. “Specially, thank you to Yiannis Papantonopoulos, and his team of officers at the Society, Ermioni Takou, Margarita Takou, Olga Nikolini, and Marianna Dakanali. The turnout from the community was stellar.”
Larigakis added special thanks to Paun Peters, Donna Lalangas, Catherine and Themos Dassopoulos, and Fr. Mark Pakes and the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Dallas, for their collective strong support.
“On behalf of the Hellenic Cultural Society of Dallas and our community at large, I want to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your presentation, and more importantly, for your relentless pursuit of your mission,” Papantonopoulos said.
