No. 38

HOUSTON, TX - American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis presented to the Greek American community of Houston, Texas, thanks to a forum hosted by several community supporters. The event was held at Maxim Catering Hall, March 21, 2024.

President Larigakis presented on the topic, "Current Developments in U.S. relations with Greece and Cyprus.” He elaborated on how those relations have an impact in the Eastern Mediterranean. He also reflected on the somber fact that this year marks 50 years since Turkey’s illegal invasion of the Republic of Cyprus.

Larigakis’ presentation also included how AHI works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and the Republic of Cyprus through AHI’s substantive policy programs and initiatives that advocate for the rule of law.

“It is critical for our communities to be informed and engaged on the issues,” Larigakis said. “I encourage their activism and outreach to their members of Congress as well as state and local officials.”

Houstonian James Cargas moderated the presentation and the substantive Q&A with Larigakis that followed.

Attending the presentation was the Greek Consul in Houston, Lambros Kakissis and the Honorary Consul to Cyprus, Christos Angelides.

The entities that hosted the forum included AHEPA Houston Chapter 29, Daughters of Penelope Houston Chapter 54, Chris Pappas of Pappas Restaurants, the Hellenic Cultural Center of the Southwest, Green Energy Law LLC, and Ms. CoraAnn Blytas.

“Thank you to the dynamic Greek American community of Houston for inviting me to present to their community,” Larigakis said. “Specially, thank you to James Cargas for his participation. I appreciated the wonderful turnout from the community.”
