AHI Releases Updates to US-Greece Strategic Partnership Fact Sheet

No. 57

WASHINGTON, DC — The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) announced it has released an update to its “US-Greece Strategic Partnership” fact sheet, which details the defense cooperation pillar of the bilateral relationship between the United States and Greece.

The fact sheet highlights the numerous examples of how Greece contributes to the security interests of the United States, such as facilitating and participating in joint training exercises and international peacekeeping operations over many decades. The report also highlights how Greece is an integral contributor to NATO and is one of the few countries to consistently meet the alliance’s spending standards, which ensures it is in the optimal position to fulfill its strategic obligations.

Specific attention should be given to the importance of Souda Bay and its utilization by the United States military, which has reportedly sent an influx of personnel and aircraft to the area as part of an ongoing augmentation of forces in the region.

“When it comes down to it, Greece is a proven, reliable, and invaluable ally of the United States. The defensive cooperation between the two countries continues to grow stronger each day, as highlighted in the fact sheet by both Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.” President Nick Larigakis said. “Our fact sheet presents data, provides a historical perspective of the partnership, and shares testimonials from U.S. officials. It is an excellent tool for policymakers to utilize when addressing the Southeast Europe and Eastern Mediterranean regions.”

The American Hellenic Institute is an independent non-profit Greek American public policy center and think tank that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
