Leon Andris
LEON ANDRIS is Chairman of the American Hellenic Institute Foundation (AHIF). He was born in 1950 in Washington, DC where he has spent his entire life in his hometown. Originally named Leonidas Andritsakis, his name was shortened as an infant. Leon’s father, an attorney from Athens, worked with the Greek Embassy in Washington, DC, during World War II before transitioning to roles at the United Nations and the World Bank and eventually pursuing a career in real estate. His mother, born in New York City shortly after her own mother’s arrival from Constantinople, built a career in journalism and public relations in Washington. Leon holds an engineering degree but established his career in real estate, focusing on multi-family housing. His family has long been active at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bethesda, where he has served multiple terms as Parish Council President. He and his family have three children: Clio, a tenured professor at Georgia Tech; Nick, a Director at Comcast’s Philadelphia headquarters; and Zoe, currently in her last year of a PhD program in Clinical Psychology at George Washington University. In 2003, Leon was invested as an Archon in the Order of St. Andrew. His service to the Greek Orthodox Church has included roles on the New Jersey Metropolis Council, where he served as Vice Chair from 2020 to 2022, as well as the Archdiocesan Council, where he currently serves as Chair of the Technology Committee. Leon also serves on the Boards of the Oxi Day Foundation and the AHI. Leon and his wife, Robyn (Evegenia) also spend winters in Florida and summers in Leon’s ancestral village in the Parnon Mountains of the Peloponnese.
