The one-hour documentary, “Cyprus Still Divided: A US Foreign Policy Failure,” produced by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, George Veras and made possible by the support of the American Hellenic Institute Foundation. The documentary explores why the U.S. failed to act during the 1974 turkey invasion of the republic of Cyprus. The answer lies in a tangled web of domestic politics, the realpolitik of then Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and repeated refusal of successive U.S. presidents to demand that the rule of law and fundamental human rights be upheld in Cyprus. Today, more than 35 years later, the Turkish army continues to occupy the northern third of Cyprus in violation of international law, and Turkey has illegally settled occupied Cyprus with more than 180,000 Turks.
