AHI Commends Congressional Efforts to Uphold U.S. Law Regarding Turkey
No. 48
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) commends recent congressional efforts to ensure that U.S. law is faithfully upheld with respect to any future defense cooperation with Turkey. AHI welcomes the statement by Representatives Gus Bilirakis, Nicole Malliotakis, Mike Haridopolos, and Jimmy Patronis expressing serious concerns over reports of a proposed U.S. military sale to Turkey, as well as the bipartisan effort led by Representative Dina Titus to ensure that any attempt to reintegrate Turkey into the F-35 program complies fully with existing U.S. law.
“AHI applauds Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle for reaffirming that the rule of law must remain at the center of U.S. foreign policy,” said AHI President Nick Larigakis. “Holding allies accountable to the same legal standards advances American strategic interests, strengthens our alliances, and promotes stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. Congress must continue exercising its vital oversight role to ensure U.S. law is upheld.”
AHI encourages Members of Congress to continue working together on a bipartisan basis to uphold the rule of law and ensure that America’s foreign and security policies advance our national interests. Bipartisan leadership has long been the cornerstone of U.S. engagement in the Eastern Mediterranean, and it remains essential to promoting regional stability, strengthening America’s democratic allies, and safeguarding U.S. strategic interests.
