No. 105
WASHINGTON, DC -The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) and the AHI-Athens Chapter are happy to announce the 20th Annual AHI Athens Hellenic Heritage Achievement and Public Service Awards Dinner. This year’s event holds special significance as it will serve as the final highlight in AHI’s celebration of its 50th Anniversary. The dinner will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the renowned Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens.
The evening will commence with a reception at 8:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 9:00 p.m. This year’s awards will recognize two distinguished honorees who have made significant contributions to Hellenic culture, international relations, and philanthropy:
The AHI Hellenic Heritage Public Service Award will be presented to United States Ambassador George Tsunis in recognition of his dedicated support, promotion, and strengthening of the U.S.-Greece relationship
The AHI Hellenic Heritage Achievement & Philanthropy Award will be awarded to Athanasios and Marina Martinos for their exceptional impact on the maritime industry, their unwavering dedication to philanthropy, Orthodox Christian faith, and their tireless efforts to preserve and promote Hellenic culture.
“As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are honored to recognize these extraordinary individuals who have significantly contributed to the advancement of Hellenic ideals,” said Nick Larigakis, AHI President. “Ambassador Tsunis and Athanasios and Marina Martinos embody the values we stand for, and their work strengthens the bonds between Greece and the United States. We look forward to celebrating their achievements in the heart of Athens.”
Furthermore, this dinner will also mark a significant milestone for AHI. Founded in 1974 by Gene Rossides in response to the illegal invasion of the Republic of Cyprus by Turkey, AHI has spent the last 50 years championing the rule of law, advocating for Hellenic values, and strengthening the United States' relationships with both Greece and Cyprus across many sectors. The event will serve as the culmination of AHI's 50th-anniversary celebrations, reflecting on five decades of achievements.
