No. 41

WASHINGTON - On May 15, 2025, AHI legislative director Alexander Christofor attended POLITICO’s Security Summit in Washington, D.C. The forum featured senior administration officials, military leaders, key lawmakers, and industry executives.

5 members of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues delivered remarks at the summit, including Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA), and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL). The members shared their thoughts on current events in international affairs, including topics which effect U.S. interests in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

During his panel, Rep. Lawler addressed actions by Türkiye that are counter to the interests of the United States, stating the importance of "holding some of our allies, like Egypt, Türkiye, and Qatar, accountable and make sure that they understand they have to pick a side. You can't play all sides." AHI commends Rep. Lawler’s focus on this issue, and for his leadership in the Hellenic Caucus by co-sponsoring H.R.2510: American-Hellenic-Israeli Eastern Mediterranean Counterterrorism and Maritime Security Partnership Act of 2025.
