AHI’s Longstanding Efforts Recognized in National Dialogue on Greek America’s Future

No. 57

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A pair of recent commentaries by Professor Alexander Kitroeff in The National Herald has sparked an important discussion about the trajectory and sustainability of Greek America. In “Does Greek America Have a Future?” and its follow-up “Greek America’s Future: Who & What,” Kitroeff examines challenges facing the Greek American community, especially those impacting the community’s youth and emerging leaders.

Following the publication of the initial column, AHI President Nick Larigakis reached out to Professor Kitroeff to respectfully highlight the Institute’s longstanding contributions to these various spaces; contributions that were inadvertently omitted from the first article. In his second commentary, Kitroeff graciously acknowledged AHI’s work, citing 15 Future of Hellenism Conferences hosted across the United States, a published volume of scholarly papers from those forums, and 17 consecutive annual Foreign Policy Study Trips for American college students to Greece and Cyprus.

“These programs reflect AHI’s deep commitment to preparing future leaders and strengthening the Greek American identity,” President Larigakis said. “We’re grateful to Professor Kitroeff for recognizing our efforts and for encouraging a serious dialogue about the future of our community. This is dialogue that we have proudly hosted and will continue to contribute to in the future.”
