NEW YORK — The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) took part in a series of high-profile events in New York City from September 24–26, 2025, reaffirming its commitment to U.S.–Greece and U.S.–Cyprus relations.
On September 24, AHI co-sponsored a luncheon at the Union League Club honoring Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic Kyriakos Mitsotakis. AHI President Nick Larigakis attended and later gave a television interview to ERT News journalist Fanis Papathanasiou from the same venue. In the interview, he discussed AHI’s letter to President Donald J. Trump regarding the President’s meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He also emphasized AHI’s advocacy on U.S. policy issues critical to Greece, Cyprus, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Additionally, Larigakis participated in a High-Level Breakfast welcoming President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, September 26. The breakfast was hosted by Robert Singer, Chairman of the Center for Jewish Impact, and Daniel S. Mariaschin, CEO of B’nai B’rith International. The event brought together a select group of senior leaders for a discussion on “Cyprus & Israel: Strategic Cooperation in a Changing Middle East.” The program emphasized Cyprus’ vital role in advancing regional stability, maintaining strong ties with the United States, and fostering cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean. At a time when Israel’s circle of steadfast friends has narrowed, participants highlighted the special significance of Cyprus’ consistent and close friendship.
Later that day, Larigakis also attended an event hosted by the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations in New York, where he had the opportunity to engage directly with President Christodoulides in a broader discussion with members of the Cypriot American community.
“It was an honor for AHI to co-sponsor and participate in these events, which brought together leaders of the Hellenic, Cypriot, and Jewish communities,” Larigakis said. “They underscored the importance of strong U.S. engagement in the Eastern Mediterranean and the unique role of Greece and Cyprus in supporting regional stability.”
