AHI Praises Leadership of Representative Titus for Initiating Letter Urging Trump Hold Türkiye Accountable
U.S. Representative Dina Titus (D-NV), vice co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues
No. 38
WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Dina Titus (D-NV), vice co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues, led a letter from Members of Congress to President Donald Trump urging him to hold Türkiye accountable for a wide range of actions. The letter, which received bipartisan support, highlights numerous policies of Türkiye that detract from the international interests of the United States.
In addition to her long history working on issues relevant to U.S. relations with Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, Rep. Titus has also been a longtime leader on efforts to hold Türkiye accountable for its actions and bring light to the numerous abuses committed by the Erdoğan administration. AHI applauds her initiative on this letter and her ongoing efforts to promote policy important to U.S. interests in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
The core elements of the letter include; Türkiye’s occupation of the Republic of Cyprus; Türkiye’s violations of Greek airspace with U.S.-provided F-16s; Türkiye’s ties to Hamas and its goals to destroy Israel; Türkiye’s possession of the Russian-made S-400 missile defense system, which resulted in Türkiye being removed from the F-35 program through CAATSA sanctions; Erdoğan’s continuous anti-western rhetoric, including anti-semetic statements and direct threats to the sovereignty of Israel; Erdoğan’s irredentist claims under the “Blue Homeland” policy; Türkiye’s policies that preference Russia over NATO; Türkiye’s aspiration to join BRICS; Türkiye’s abuse of human rights.
