AHI President Interviewed Before and After Inauguration on Greek TV

No. 7

WASHINGTON, DC - American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis appeared on the Greek TV program, Action 24, on January 17, 2025 and again on January 21, 2025, to discuss the Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump and share his insights on U.S.-Greece relations.

During the interview, Larigakis also opined on the recent decision by then-President Joe Biden to include Cyprus in various U.S. military sales programs, a significant development in the bilateral relationship. Larigakis highlighted the importance of this decision, which he sees as a positive step towards strengthening U.S. ties in the region and addressing security concerns in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“The inclusion of Cyprus in these military programs represents a critical move for U.S.-Cyprus relations and enhances regional stability,” Larigakis said. “It’s a positive sign of the ever-growing cooperation between the U.S. and its allies and partners in the region. However, it would have been preferable if President Biden acted on it a few years ago.”

In the post Inaugural interview, Larigakis was asked to comment on his thoughts as to the new Administration’s position regarding Greece, of which he stated that, “I think that it is a positive development that Marco Rubio is the new Secretary of State, considering he knows the issues in the East Med very well, and was one of the authors of the “East Med Act, along with Senator Menendez.” However, he cautioned, “Although I do not believe there will be any negative changes in the relationship, it will be important to see who all the other important policy players will be, in both the Congress and most important, at State and the NSC.”

The American Hellenic Institute is an independent non-profit U.S. public policy center and think tank that works to strengthen U.S. relations with Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, and promote issues important to the Greek American community.
