AHIF Releases 15th Volume of the American Journal of Contemporary Hellenic Issues
No. 6
WASHINGTON, DC - The American Hellenic Institute Foundation (AHIF) has released the 15th volume of its policy journal, American Journal of Contemporary Hellenic Issues (AJCHI). The journal can be found on here.
This Winter 2024-25 issue coincides with the 50th anniversary of Turkey’s illegal invasion and occupation of northern Cyprus. Major articles in this volume examine the invasion’s ongoing impact and its connection to AHI’s founding and the Institute’s advocacy for the rule of law. Contributions also explore violations of human rights and international law, highlighting Turkey’s continued Islamization and Turkification of Cypriot territory.
In his introduction, AJCHI’s Managing Editor Dr. Constantine G. Hatzidimitriou emphasizes: “As Nick Larigakis and Van Coufoudakis note, the 1974 invasion and subsequent U.S. embargo of arms to Turkey are also intimately connected to the founding of AHI and its continuing advocacy for the rule of law. Professors Ioannides and Tamis have contributed detailed studies that provide a historical analysis and discussion of the diplomatic complexities and violations of human rights and international laws that the Turkish invasion initiated and continues into the 21st century.”
The journal also reflects on the fall of Greece’s military Junta in 1974 and the restoration of democracy, analyzing the resilience of democratic institutions during economic crises. A special section highlights archives, cultural resources, and initiatives preserving Greek heritage, while additional articles explore art, folklore, poetry, and recent publications on Greek and Greek American history.
