AHI Endorses Hellenic Caucus Letter to Rubio & Hegseth on Erdogan Visit Urging Accountability
WASHINGTON - On September 25, 2025, the co-chairs and vice chairs of the Hellenic Caucus, U.S. Representatives Chris Pappas (D-NH), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Dina Titus (D-NV), and Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), led a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth voicing opposition to President Donald Trump engaging in arms sales negotiations with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, president of Türkiye. Specifically, the letter urged the administration to adhere to the Countering American Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) sanctions placed on Türkiye during the first Trump term, which removed the country from the F-35 program following its purchase of the Russian S-400 Triumph (SA-21 Growler). The American Hellenic Institute was proud to be one the endorsing organizations of this letter, alongside AHEPA, American Friends of Kurdistan, Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), American Jewish Committee (AJC), CUFI Action Fund, FDD Action, and the Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC), Middle East Forum (MEF), and PSEKA – International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus.
