AHI Urges Secretary Rubio to Support East Med Partners, Expresses Concerns on Türkiye
No. 14
Washington, D.C. – On February 25, 2025, American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio urging him to continue his support of key partners in the Eastern Mediterranean, including Greece, the Republic of Cyprus, and Israel, while also cautioning him regarding U.S. involvement with Türkiye.
In the letter, Larigakis emphasized the strategic importance of the countries under the “3+1” structure in promoting U.S. foreign policy interests, particularly through defense cooperation, counterterrorism coordination, and regional diplomatic support.
Larigakis also expressed concerns about Türkiye’s actions that undermine U.S. foreign policy interests, including its destabilizing role in Syria, its support for U.S.-designated terrorist organizations, its blatant disregard for human rights and religious freedom, and its longstanding aggression toward Greece, the Republic of Cyprus, and Israel.
“We urge Secretary Rubio to adopt a firm, principled approach that aligns U.S. foreign policy with our strategic interests and democratic values,” Larigakis writes.
