Netflix to Stream Show “Famagusta,” Portraying 1974 Turkish Invasion of Cyprus

No. 76

WASHINGTON, DC — Netflix will air the TV series Famagusta, a miniseries based on the brutality and fear suffered by Cypriots in 1974, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

The show will be available for streaming on September 20. It previously aired on MEGA TV in Greece last fall.

Ersin Tatar, Turkish Cypriot leader of the so-called “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” protested the series was “propaganda” and dismissed the show as “a distortion of the facts” that “1974 was a peaceful operation.”

The International Movie Database (IMDB) calls Famagusta “a powerful and thrilling portrayal of the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, revealing the brutal reality faced by the Cypriot people.”
