WASHINGTON, D.C. — Representatives of the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) and American Hellenic Institute Foundation (AHIF) participated in the 41st Annual PSEKA Conference, held June 9–11 in Washington, D.C. The conference brought together elected officials, government representatives, community leaders, and advocates for discussions on Cyprus, U.S. policy in the Eastern Mediterranean, and regional security cooperation.

Representatives of AHI and AHIF participating in conference activities included AHI President Nick Larigakis, AHIF Chairman Leon Andris, AHI Board Members Kostas Alexakis and Elias Gerasoulis, and AHI Legislative Assistant Will Martin.

At several instances throughout the conference, Larigakis delivered remarks addressing the Cyprus issue and the importance of sustained U.S. engagement in the Eastern Mediterranean. He emphasized the strategic significance of the growing U.S.-Cyprus relationship and the role of cooperation among regional partners in advancing stability, security, and shared democratic interests.

Throughout the conference, participants heard from Cypriot officials, leaders of prominent Greek American and Cypriot American organizations, and representatives of the Armenian and Jewish communities. A highlight of the conference was the opportunity for attendees to hear remarks from approximately 30 Members of Congress and U.S. Senators during events held on Capitol Hill. Congressional speakers discussed the importance of the U.S.-Cyprus relationship, regional security cooperation, energy and economic partnerships, and continued support for a just and lasting resolution of the Cyprus issue.

"AHI was founded in direct response to the events of 1974 and the continuing occupation of Cyprus," said AHI President Nick Larigakis. "Our founder, Eugene Rossides, recognized that Turkey’s invasion raised fundamental questions about international law, human rights, and American foreign policy. Participating in the annual PSEKA Conference allows us to continue that mission by engaging policymakers and community leaders on the importance of a just and lasting resolution of the Cyprus issue."

AHI and AHIF appreciate the efforts of the conference organizers and all participants who contributed to a productive exchange of ideas and perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the region.
