Washington, D.C. – The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) announces that its President and CEO, Nick Larigakis, participated in a panel discussion hosted by the Modern Greek Studies Program at Georgetown University, titled “Cyprus Divided: Past Missteps and Future Paths to Unity,” on Monday, April 27, 2026.

Larigakis joined a group of distinguished experts to examine the historical and contemporary challenges surrounding the Cyprus issue, as well as potential avenues toward a just and viable resolution. The discussion highlighted the importance of sustained U.S. engagement and adherence to international law in efforts to reunify the island.

The event’s keynote speaker was Dr. Andrew Novo, the American Hellenic Institute Foundation’s (AHIF) newly appointed Non-Resident Fellow for the Eastern Mediterranean. Dr. Novo, who serves as Professor of Strategic Studies at the National Defense University and as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, delivered a presentation on his book, The EOKA Cause (recently translated into Greek). His remarks provided historical and geopolitical context on the Cypriot struggle and its enduring relevance to current geopolitical dynamics in the region.

The panel was rounded out by Dr. Omer Taspinar, Professor at the National Defense University and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, who contributed additional analysis on the broader regional and geopolitical dynamics shaping the Eastern Mediterranean.

The panel prompted a robust discussion among the audience and reflected a strong synergy, with Dr. Novo offering historical and scholarly context that complemented Mr. Larigakis’s practical insights informed by longstanding engagement in U.S. foreign policy and advocacy on Cyprus.

AHI extends its appreciation to Professor Ismini Lamb, Director of the Modern Greek Studies Program at Georgetown University, for organizing and hosting this timely and important discussion.
