AHI Sends Letter to Secretary Rubio Ahead of U.S.-Greece Strategic Dialogue
No. 63
WASHINGTON, DC — The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio ahead of his visit to Athens for the Sixth U.S.-Greece Strategic Dialogue, commending his leadership and urging him to reaffirm U.S. support for Greece and the Republic of Cyprus and their sovereign rights under international law.
In the letter, AHI President Nick Larigakis emphasized Greece’s role as a steadfast NATO ally and strategic partner, citing its support for U.S. operations at Souda Bay and its contributions to regional security.
AHI also highlighted Greece’s growing role as an energy gateway for Europe and called for continued U.S. support for regional energy cooperation, including the U.S.-Eastern Mediterranean Energy Center and the 3+1 partnership among the United States, Greece, the Republic of Cyprus and Israel.
The letter raised concerns about Türkiye’s actions in the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean and urged the Administration to maintain CAATSA sanctions on Turkish entities, oppose Türkiye’s return to the F-35 program, and reject efforts to obstruct lawful energy development or threaten the sovereignty of U.S. allies.
“Your visit comes at a pivotal moment for the Eastern Mediterranean,” Larigakis wrote, reaffirming AHI’s support for efforts to strengthen the U.S.-Greece strategic partnership.
