No. 25

WASHINGTON - On Monday, March 28, 2025, the American Hellenic Institute hosted six state legislators at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. The group included State Senator Leonidas Raptiakis (D-RI), State Representative Alex Skarlatos (R-OR), State Senator Stephan Pappas (R-WY), State Representative Nicole Klarides-Ditria (R-CT), State Assemblyman John Lemondes (R-NY), and former State Representative Themis Klarides (R-CT), and were received by AHI President Nick Larigakis, AHI Executive Director Zac Cotronakis, and AHI Legislative Director Alexander Christofor.

AHI president Nick Larigakis stated that “It was an honor to receive this esteemed group at our headquarters. In addition to the six Members of Congress who serve at a federal level, our country has many Greek American public servants at the local and state levels. This national presence is important to ensure the issues that matter the most to our community are engaged at every level.”

Larigakis added, “I am very grateful to the state legislators that attended for taking the time to meet with us at our headquarters, where we discussed a wide range of important topics. Their hard work and dedication to public service should make all Greek Americans proud.”

According to the National Herald, there are currently “a total of 42 elected officials of Hellenic decent in 20 states across the country now hold office, six members of Congress, five General Officers, 12 State Senators, and 19 State Representatives.”

The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) is a non-profit policy center and think tank founded in 1974 that promotes the interests of the United States in foreign affairs involving Greece, the Republic of Cyprus, the Eastern Mediterranean, and Southern Europe.
