AHI President Attends Archons’ 4th Annual International Religious Freedom Conference; Sponsors Defense Policy Briefing
No. 63
ATHENS, GREECE — American Hellenic Institute President Nick Larigakis attended the Fourth Archon International Conference on Religious Freedom in Athens from May 26 to 29, 2024. Larigakis serves as a co-chair of the Order of Saint Andrew – Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s International Committee.
Larigakis hosted, under AHI’s auspices, and with the authorization of Greek National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, a defense policy briefing for Archon members, which took place at the Athens War Museum on May 30 as part of ancillary events held at the conference’s conclusion. The briefing featured hosts Konstantinos Zolotas, Chief of Staff to Hellenic National Defense General Staff, and Major General Panayiotis Kavidopoulos.
“A sincere thank you to President and CEO Nick Larigakis and AHI for the unprecedented access for the informative session on the current state of our Greek national defense,” Co-Chair of the Archon International Committee Costa Sideridis, of Massachusetts, said. “The policy briefing offered by the Hellenic National Defense General Staff was a sobering reminder of the challenges the Greek nation faces considering the current geopolitical environment in the Eastern Mediterranean. Greece is truly a stalwart sentinel protecting our western democratic principles in a rather hostile arc of present conflict.”
He added, “AHI’s access and ongoing commitment represents an incredible asset to educate and inform us all the importance Greece plays in the region.”
“I congratulate the organizers of the conference, including His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros and Archons National Commander Dr. Anthony Limberakis,” Larigakis said. “It was an honor to participate and to help organize the briefing. My sincere thanks to Minister Dendias, Chief of Staff Zolotas, Major General Kavidopoulos, and all Archons who attended.”
